It's just one month since I opened the box containing my new DMC-FZ28. Since then, I've taken about 3500 pictures with it. With my original FZ18, with its 18X zoom, I was able to extend the reach of the things I could photograph. The new FZ28 extends this even further with improved image quality at the higher ISO settings, enabling me to do the same sort of available light photography I did fifty years ago with my original 35mm cameras and high speed film.

I've used the FZ28 to photograph an air show, to explore the dark, to do black and white photography that emulates Tri-X film, and to visit an old town. And I still have lots of "keepers" left over. So I'm publishing some of them here.

All of the photos were shot in JPEG format and processed on the computer using inexpensive software programs. The black and white images were shot with the camera's color mode set to the black and white so I could see in advance what I would be getting. (You can shoot in color and then convert to black and white, but that takes the fun out of it.)

I was originally going to put in the camera settings used for each picture, but decided instead to just post the pictures unadorned as a demonstration of the sort of work that this camera is capable of. I've used most of the features of the camera here, from the widest angle to the maximum telephoto, from the lowest ISO settings to the highest, working in both black and white and color.

All in all, I'd say it's a pretty good month's work. Can't wait to see what happens next.
